When I got bach home I felt an incredible urge to go out and ski my ass off as a punishment for eating and drinking too much over the weekend. I skied the same route I did on Thursday, except this time doing two laps (á 1,6 km) in Olari. I tried to see how fast I could do the lap, and I did the first lap in 7 minutes and 18 seconds. On the second lap I to it a bit easier, not pushing myself to the limit like I did on the first laps. This time my time was 7 minutes and 47 seconds. I think this pretty much tells me that my technique (or rather the lack of any) doesn't last under more effort. Better just take it easy from now on and just make longer trips until I can get technically better at freestyle cross-country skiing.
Today my trip took a little over an hour and I burned exactly 1400 kcal according to my hr monitor.
Weigh'ing tomorrow. I hope it'll be low enough so I won't get depressed. I'm expecting a weight of high 95's, but we'll see. I'm still hoping I could make a low 94's on Friday morning for the weekly weigh'ing.

Getting closer (79) (26.2.2010)
On Thursday skied a new route that was pretty fun to ski. First and last 2 km were hard (the normal central park route), but now I added a new part in Olari. All on all I skied 1,34 km in just over an hour, burning 1310 kcal.
On Friday morning I weighed 94,6 kg, so only 1,6 kg left to my first goal of 2010. upcoming weekend is going to set me back a little, on Monday we'll find out how much.

My legs we just too tired after Sunday and Monday, but since I wanted to lose some excess water in my body in order to get my weight down, I decided to go to the gym anyway. I ran for 30 minutes and it never felt good. After the run I pedaled the bike with a low resistance, trying to get the lactic acids out of my muscles.
Today I'll rest just so that I can do my usual routine on Thursday.

Great golf by Ian Poulter mast night! The bad thing about that was that I stayed up late watching it. Today after work I fell asleep on the couch and wasn't sure if I'd have the energy to go ski, but I did go anyway. I'm glad I did, since I had a great time and I really rhig I getting a hang ofthe tecnique. I skied for an hour and 20 minutes, burning 1070 kcal.
The weekend of eating crap left an extra kilo into my body when comparing to Friday morning. I'm still confident I can lose 0,5-1 kg come next Friday.

Fantastic day. I felt really energetic when I woke up and couldn't wait to go to the gym. When I got there, I started with 60 minutes on the bike and followed it with 30 minutes on the treadmill. I Tried to do some abs, but the were too sore from yesterday.
After lunch I still had quite a bit of energy left in me, so I went skiing. I did just over an hour in the central park.
Alltogether I burned 2250 kcal today.

The good and the bad (74) (20.2.2010)
It's ugly.
A good trip to the gym. 30 minutes of running and 15 minutes on the bike. I also did 4x30 ab crunches and 4x10 inclined bench presses.
The bad came after. Since I had no nachos yesterday, I made sure I wouldn't make the same mistake again. We bought nachos, potato chips, chocholate donuts, candy and assorted chili nuts. Now, after OD'ing on sugas, fat and salt I know I won't be doing it again in a while. Feeling like this sucks.

This was a hard week, so today I gave myself a day off. I wanted to me a good weight and after 15 minutes of running, 15 minutes on the bike and 30 minutes on the AMT I was able to make a decent weight this morning. 95,3 kg is 1,1 kg less than last week.
After deciding to pig out for the day I wanted to do it well. I started the morning with two rolls, a Snickers bar and a bag of candy. For lunch I ate a minute steak with french fries and a Coke. I even had a beef in the afternoon. :-) Later today we went for pizza and right now I eatin more candy. The only regret I have is that I didn't buy nachos and salsa.
Tomorrow I will return to my normal schedule of extreme dieting and working out. It'll feel good after this.

No progress (72) (17.2.2010)
Pretty much the same situation as yesterday. After 30 minutes of running and 15 minutes of riding a bike I weighed 96,1 kg. Tomorrow morning I'm expecting to record a weight just under 96 kg. If I can find the energy to do my usual Thursday routine I just might be able to get to low 95's, but nothing more.
Just like yesterday, I was not able to get my heart rate above 150 and therefore I burned only 670 kcal. I anxiously want to make 93 kg as soon as possible, but it Miika like it'll take more than 2-3 weeks. Oh well, I'm still well ahead of my plan, so I should be happy. Why aren't I?

Getting tougher (71) (16.2.2010)
Two things. Weight loss sems to be slowing down. So far I've been able to drop on 300 g since Friday. Since I'm used losing over a kilo in a week, I'm worried I won't lose much over 500 g this time.
Anotherthig getting harder is burning calories, since I am getting lighter and into better shape. Today I ran for a little over 6 km in 40 minutes, but burning only 600 kcal. If one kilo is a little over 7000 kcal, I have to run and ski a hellova lot more in the upcoming weeks, since I can't cut down on eating any more. My diet keeps slipping back to well under 1000 kcal a day. Today it must be something around 700-800 kcal.

Don't worry, I haven't been lazy. Yesterday and today we spent about 5 hours on shoveling snow off our roof and our yard. I thought that would be enough, but after resting for a few hours I thought a little skiing wouldn't hurt. I went to the central park and did one lap, burning 767 kcal.

Antti came over and I got him to play badminton. We had a pretty close game, but Antti was better in the end. It was a really good workout as well, and I will make a great weight tomorrow morning. Looks like I'll lose at least 2 kg from last week. Yes!

Still not giving in to the flu (68) (10.2.2010)
I keep getting feeling of flu every now and then, but by medication and meditation I try to keep it away. I also want to keep making good progress on my weight loss, so today I ran for 30 minutes (4,5 km) and rode the bike for 10 minutes (4,5 km), just to keep my metabolism working hard. Look like I'm going to make my lowest weight of this whole 1,5 year period on Friday. Tonight the scale matched my earlier record of 97,5 kg and I still have 33 hours until my weekly weigh'ing.
Aggressive weight loss has taken it's toll on my muscle strenght. Today I was barely able to do 3x10 with 50 kg on the inclined bench press. I need to get back to weight training as soon as I make my spring goal weight.
Really stressful day at work today. I'm really glad I have this exercise regime these days, It definetely is a fantastic way to ventilate and clear my mind of all the stress. I'm also really happy for what I have at home. Just talking with my wonderful wife and tossing a pink elephant toy to my dog is really all I need.

Pleasepleaseplease, don't let me get sick again (67) (8.2.2010)
I came over to Tallinn for two days and planned on spending at least tonight at the hotel gym. Yesterday I started to feel the flu coming at me once again, but I still went skiing. Today I still felt like crap from time to time, but I decided to get in a run even if it killed me. I ran for a decent 30 minutes and watched the night fall on the city.
This morning the scale was either broken or I'm really starting to lose the weight at a really good pace. 98,2 kg after the huge drop on Friday and not even really trying over the weekend, that's what I like to see.
I probably won't have time to go to the gym tomorrow, so I just have to be extra careful with my eating. I'll eat myself full at breakfast, but not too full. I think the biggest temptation to eat garbage is on the two hour ferry trip back to Helsinki.

Felt a bit flu-ish, but did let that stop me. The weather was perfect and I went to ski at my home golf club. The profile is a lot easier than the central park where I normally ski, and it really showed. I was able to maintain a good, even pace for the whole 10 km. Of course the hills slowed me down a bit.
I did the 10 km in a hour with a avg hr of 163. Total calories burned was 1223.

The usual. One hour of badminton. This time we Tekes to make it a bit more efficient by spending half the time tryingto just keep the shuttlecock in the air.
Oh yeah. Yesterday's weight was a really good 98,6 kg. I'm half done with my project.

Tomorrow is weight day. I've been a bit worried all week because I haven't made any progress weight wise since last Friday. I still believed I'd lose at least 500 g (my minimum), but maybe not much more. Also, I have started adding a little calories to my diet over this past week, so that must have affected my weight this week.
Today I did a little bit more everything in order to record some progress tomorrow. I ate lighter food and just spent an hour on the treadmill. Ran for 9,5 km and burned 1100 kcal. All this made the scale stop at even 99,0 kg. I'm expecting to lose a little more overnight, so it looks like the result may just be good. 98,9 kg is the half-way point on this second part of my project (93 kg by May 31st).
Now for a good night of sleep.

An easy 35 minute, 603 kcal run at the gym. Didn't have time for more after grocery shopping. Still have the little pain on the right side of my right knee.
99,8 kg this morning. I seem to be stuck at this weight. If there's no change in a week I will start to worry.
