Blog continues
Due to popular demand (thanks Peter), I will continue writing this blog.
Today I put on my running shoes for the first time in over a week. I ran four laps on Kasavuori, so the usual 12,xx km in an hour and twenty minutes.
I got a nasty blister on my toe, so I won't be running in a while. I will either get o my bike or go to the gym.
I will try to reach my goal of 83 kg asap. The lowest I've been was 83,7 kg just a few weeks ago, but the irregular diet and lack of exercise while traveling over the last three weeks has made me gain a few kilos. I think my weight will be around 85 kg tomorrow morning.

First bike ride of the year was fun! Just 24 km in 71 minutes, but it was great to go where ever I wanted. I really like an easy and quiet sightseeing in my beautiful home town.

A nice morning to run at Kasavuori. A little over 8 km in just over 50 minutes.
I've decided to start living "normal" life again. Last night we ate well and even had some candy and potato chips. This will mean my weight will go up temporarily, but I'm sure I will get below 83 well before my deadline.

I decided the official deadline for my last 4 kilos. The date is obvious, of course it has to be Friday the 13th of August the day before the Rumble.
Today was an uninspirational Saturday at the gym. I started with 45 minutes on the AMT, then followed with four sets of inclined bench presses and abs. Before leaving I did three sets of lat pulls.

As always, Thursday is the day for getting the weight as low as possible for Friday's weigh'ing. I ran 10 km in an hour at the gym. Weight is looking pretty good. I'm expecting to be just below 66 kg.

Second run outdoors (113) (20.4.2010)
Yesterday I ran 8 km in good ol' Kasavuori. I still can't average 6 min kms. That'll be my first goal in running.
Today we went to the driving range instead of the gym. Tomorrow I need to do something in order to get my weight down a bit. This morning I weighed 86,8 kg.
The date for the big Rumble has been set. It will all happened on the 14th of August.

A trip to the gym after lunch was a bit tough, but I managed to get an hour of aerobic done. 30 minutes on the xtrainer and another 30 minutes on the bike. I'm hoping I will still be under 87 kg tomorrow.
My new goal is, as planned in the beginning of this year, to weigh 83 kg. This then is my next goal, but I really haven't figured out by what date I want to reach this. Is June 30th too early?

As promised, I started the outdoor running season this morning. I ran a little under 9 km in just under 55 minutes as you can see from here. A lot harder than runnning on the treadmill.

Normal weight (109) (15.4.2010)
On Thursday I ran 10 km (60 minutes) on treadmill and tried to gert closer to my next target weight of 87 kg. This morning I weighed in at 87,2 kg, so I should reach the goal in the next few days.
87,2 kg means that I have reached one milestone. My BMi is now 24,9, and I am now officially normal weight. How come I still feel fat just like before? Got to keep on working hard, maybe reaching my next goal of 83 kg will make me feel less obese?

I was in Tallinn for a few days and went to the good gym at the top floor of the Reval Olümpia Hotel. I ran for 30 minutes and did 4 sets of bench presses and biceps.

I came up with a new workout or test for myself. I called it the Indoor Triathlon. My plan is to do 60 minutes on th treadmill, 60 minutes on the crosstrainer and 60 minutes on the bike.
Today I did just the 60 minutes of running and 30 minutes of crosstrainer. I got hungry and bored, so there was no chance on continuing for another 90 minutes. Bt one of these days I will do that.

Morning AMT (102) (3.4.2010)
We're visiting some family today just after noon, so I had to be up early and ready to work right away. I was the first person at the gym when it opened at 9:00 am. I had time for one hour on the AMT before I had to leave, so that's what I did.
Even though I did a lot of stuff yesterday, our good food made me be heavier this morning than what I wanted. I was hoping to break 87,5 kg over easter, but it looks like an impossible task. That sucks.

I was really anxious to go to the gym this morning after taking yesterday off. We did have some good stuff to eat last night, so my weight ended up being 88,5 kg for my weekly weigh'ing.
I started with a good hour of running on the treadmill and followed it with 20 minutes on the bike.
Before having good pasta for lunch we went for a kittle over 9 km nordic walk. Now my legs are pretty tired.
Let's see what else I get done over the Easter holidays.

On Tuesday I did my pretty usual aerobic crap. Once again I was tired, but I'm sure I don't want to bore you with that same crap again.
I did 35 minutes on the treadmill and 15 minutes on the xtrainer. This got me below 89 kg for the first time.

Thursday and the weekend (95, 96, 97) (25.-28.3.2010)
I seem to be updating this blog pretty lazily.
On Thursday I was tired, but had to try to make Friday weigh'ing be below 90 kg. After 30 minutes on the AMT, 15 minutes on the bike and four sets of abs I weighed 89,6 kg on Friday.
On Sarurday we ate some fried garbage for lunch. This made our hour of badminton just about as sucky as possible.
Today was better. I spent an hour on the treadmill and 15 minutes on the bike. Most likely I will be below Friday's weight tomorrow. That'll be a good start for the Easter week. I'm hoping to close to 88 kgon Friday.
Btw, yesterday I bought a pair of Peak Performance pants in size Medium. Can you believe that? I sure can't.

Slowly but steadily I keep losing the extra weight I gained last weekend.

Yesterday I came home after spending 4 days at the cottage. Even though we spent two days skiing, I still managed to gain a lot of weight during that time. To keep my sanity, I tried to shed some of that weight before Tuesday morning by going skiing. I did the usual 10,5 km in central park with a pretty easy pace and burned off 1100 kcal. My weight this morning was 91,5 kg, so 2,2 kg more than on Friday morning. I have a really tough 3 days ahead of me if I want to get even close to my last week's official weight of 89,3 kg.

Do I try or shouldn't I? After yesterday's 30 minute run, abs, inclined bench presses and biceps I weighed 90,5 kg this morning. I haven't really eaten anything, so by doing a good aerobic workout tonight it might be possible to reach 89,X kg tomorrow. What to do?

I haven't found my motivation to keep on going with my weight loss project. I'm not quite sure why this happened. It's either the fact that I wasn't able to break 90 last Friday, my weight gain over the weekend, the understanding of what's still left or maybe just general exhaustion. I'll try to do something tomorrow and on Thursday in order to get somewhere close to 90 on this Friday and then just relax at the cottage on the weekend. I'm taking two days of work and try to gather up energy for the spring rush at work and for the remaining workout project.
I've lost a lot of muscle strenght during the last few months. I would like to work on it more and more, but I know I can't do it before I've reached a weight and waist I'm happy with. I can only concetrate fully on one aspect of working out.
Today I spent an hour on xtrainer, burning 900 kcal. I'm hoping to weigh less than 91 tomorrow morning.

My weight seems to be settling to around 92 kg. This, I guess, means that I can fairly easily get rid of about 2 kg of liquid fairly easily, but my "real weight" at the moment is approximately 92. I decided to give up the super strict diet and get back to working on muscle strenght along side of all the aerobic stuff. My goal now is to lose 5 more kilos and reach 87 kg and at the same time gain a little muscle. In total then I think I need to lose 6-7 kg of fat.
I went to the gym. Warmed up for 30 minutes on the xtrainer and followed it with four sets of bench presses (barely was able to do it with 50 kg), abs and biceps.
I will increased my intake of protein, but otherwise I'm not quite sure what my diet is going to look like.

-6 degrees celcius and a nice clear day was a perfect setting for a morning on skis. I did 12,44 km in just 1 hour 5 minutes and burned 1200 kcal.
Friday weigh'ing was a little dissapointing. I wasn't able to break 90, but I made even 90 kg. I've gained 1,9 kg since, so the skiing and a trip to the gym tonight is more than welcome. Will this be the first week this year that I won't lose weight?

Crappy skiing (84) (8.3.2010)
Worst skiing so far. Weather was a bit too warm to my taste, but that doesn't explain why I felt like crap all the way. I did only 5 km and burned merely 589 kcal.
Who knows, maybe I should take a day off and try to recover properly from the past weekend's Golf Expo. Or maybe I'll go to the gym tomorrow. All I know is that I won't ski for a few days.

Yesterday I once again I did the 11 km on skis. The weather was perfec,t and despite being tired, it felt good. 1170 kcal lead to making my summer goal in less than half the time. 12,4 kg gone in 63 days. I'm now a light heavyweight, weigh'in 92,4 kg.
A new goal is already set. 83 kg by the end of the year. I'll try to make it a lot earlier, though. Wish me luck.

Back at home (80) (28.2.2010)
When I got bach home I felt an incredible urge to go out and ski my ass off as a punishment for eating and drinking too much over the weekend. I skied the same route I did on Thursday, except this time doing two laps (á 1,6 km) in Olari. I tried to see how fast I could do the lap, and I did the first lap in 7 minutes and 18 seconds. On the second lap I to it a bit easier, not pushing myself to the limit like I did on the first laps. This time my time was 7 minutes and 47 seconds. I think this pretty much tells me that my technique (or rather the lack of any) doesn't last under more effort. Better just take it easy from now on and just make longer trips until I can get technically better at freestyle cross-country skiing.
Today my trip took a little over an hour and I burned exactly 1400 kcal according to my hr monitor.
Weigh'ing tomorrow. I hope it'll be low enough so I won't get depressed. I'm expecting a weight of high 95's, but we'll see. I'm still hoping I could make a low 94's on Friday morning for the weekly weigh'ing.

On Thursday skied a new route that was pretty fun to ski. First and last 2 km were hard (the normal central park route), but now I added a new part in Olari. All on all I skied 1,34 km in just over an hour, burning 1310 kcal.
On Friday morning I weighed 94,6 kg, so only 1,6 kg left to my first goal of 2010. upcoming weekend is going to set me back a little, on Monday we'll find out how much.

My legs we just too tired after Sunday and Monday, but since I wanted to lose some excess water in my body in order to get my weight down, I decided to go to the gym anyway. I ran for 30 minutes and it never felt good. After the run I pedaled the bike with a low resistance, trying to get the lactic acids out of my muscles.

Great golf by Ian Poulter mast night! The bad thing about that was that I stayed up late watching it. Today after work I fell asleep on the couch and wasn't sure if I'd have the energy to go ski, but I did go anyway. I'm glad I did, since I had a great time and I really rhig I getting a hang ofthe tecnique. I skied for an hour and 20 minutes, burning 1070 kcal.
The weekend of eating crap left an extra kilo into my body when comparing to Friday morning. I'm still confident I can lose 0,5-1 kg come next Friday.

Fantastic day. I felt really energetic when I woke up and couldn't wait to go to the gym. When I got there, I started with 60 minutes on the bike and followed it with 30 minutes on the treadmill. I Tried to do some abs, but the were too sore from yesterday.
After lunch I still had quite a bit of energy left in me, so I went skiing. I did just over an hour in the central park.
Alltogether I burned 2250 kcal today.

It's ugly.
A good trip to the gym. 30 minutes of running and 15 minutes on the bike. I also did 4x30 ab crunches and 4x10 inclined bench presses.
The bad came after. Since I had no nachos yesterday, I made sure I wouldn't make the same mistake again. We bought nachos, potato chips, chocholate donuts, candy and assorted chili nuts. Now, after OD'ing on sugas, fat and salt I know I won't be doing it again in a while. Feeling like this sucks.

This was a hard week, so today I gave myself a day off. I wanted to me a good weight and after 15 minutes of running, 15 minutes on the bike and 30 minutes on the AMT I was able to make a decent weight this morning. 95,3 kg is 1,1 kg less than last week.
After deciding to pig out for the day I wanted to do it well. I started the morning with two rolls, a Snickers bar and a bag of candy. For lunch I ate a minute steak with french fries and a Coke. I even had a beef in the afternoon. :-) Later today we went for pizza and right now I eatin more candy. The only regret I have is that I didn't buy nachos and salsa.
Tomorrow I will return to my normal schedule of extreme dieting and working out. It'll feel good after this.

Pretty much the same situation as yesterday. After 30 minutes of running and 15 minutes of riding a bike I weighed 96,1 kg. Tomorrow morning I'm expecting to record a weight just under 96 kg. If I can find the energy to do my usual Thursday routine I just might be able to get to low 95's, but nothing more.
Just like yesterday, I was not able to get my heart rate above 150 and therefore I burned only 670 kcal. I anxiously want to make 93 kg as soon as possible, but it Miika like it'll take more than 2-3 weeks. Oh well, I'm still well ahead of my plan, so I should be happy. Why aren't I?

Getting tougher (71) (16.2.2010)
Two things. Weight loss sems to be slowing down. So far I've been able to drop on 300 g since Friday. Since I'm used losing over a kilo in a week, I'm worried I won't lose much over 500 g this time.
Anotherthig getting harder is burning calories, since I am getting lighter and into better shape. Today I ran for a little over 6 km in 40 minutes, but burning only 600 kcal. If one kilo is a little over 7000 kcal, I have to run and ski a hellova lot more in the upcoming weeks, since I can't cut down on eating any more. My diet keeps slipping back to well under 1000 kcal a day. Today it must be something around 700-800 kcal.

Don't worry, I haven't been lazy. Yesterday and today we spent about 5 hours on shoveling snow off our roof and our yard. I thought that would be enough, but after resting for a few hours I thought a little skiing wouldn't hurt. I went to the central park and did one lap, burning 767 kcal.

Antti came over and I got him to play badminton. We had a pretty close game, but Antti was better in the end. It was a really good workout as well, and I will make a great weight tomorrow morning. Looks like I'll lose at least 2 kg from last week. Yes!

Still not giving in to the flu (68) (10.2.2010)
I keep getting feeling of flu every now and then, but by medication and meditation I try to keep it away. I also want to keep making good progress on my weight loss, so today I ran for 30 minutes (4,5 km) and rode the bike for 10 minutes (4,5 km), just to keep my metabolism working hard. Look like I'm going to make my lowest weight of this whole 1,5 year period on Friday. Tonight the scale matched my earlier record of 97,5 kg and I still have 33 hours until my weekly weigh'ing.
Aggressive weight loss has taken it's toll on my muscle strenght. Today I was barely able to do 3x10 with 50 kg on the inclined bench press. I need to get back to weight training as soon as I make my spring goal weight.
Really stressful day at work today. I'm really glad I have this exercise regime these days, It definetely is a fantastic way to ventilate and clear my mind of all the stress. I'm also really happy for what I have at home. Just talking with my wonderful wife and tossing a pink elephant toy to my dog is really all I need.

I came over to Tallinn for two days and planned on spending at least tonight at the hotel gym. Yesterday I started to feel the flu coming at me once again, but I still went skiing. Today I still felt like crap from time to time, but I decided to get in a run even if it killed me. I ran for a decent 30 minutes and watched the night fall on the city.
This morning the scale was either broken or I'm really starting to lose the weight at a really good pace. 98,2 kg after the huge drop on Friday and not even really trying over the weekend, that's what I like to see.
I probably won't have time to go to the gym tomorrow, so I just have to be extra careful with my eating. I'll eat myself full at breakfast, but not too full. I think the biggest temptation to eat garbage is on the two hour ferry trip back to Helsinki.

Felt a bit flu-ish, but did let that stop me. The weather was perfect and I went to ski at my home golf club. The profile is a lot easier than the central park where I normally ski, and it really showed. I was able to maintain a good, even pace for the whole 10 km. Of course the hills slowed me down a bit.
I did the 10 km in a hour with a avg hr of 163. Total calories burned was 1223.

Saturday night is allright for badminton (65) (6.2.2010)
The usual. One hour of badminton. This time we Tekes to make it a bit more efficient by spending half the time tryingto just keep the shuttlecock in the air.
Oh yeah. Yesterday's weight was a really good 98,6 kg. I'm half done with my project.

Tomorrow is weight day. I've been a bit worried all week because I haven't made any progress weight wise since last Friday. I still believed I'd lose at least 500 g (my minimum), but maybe not much more. Also, I have started adding a little calories to my diet over this past week, so that must have affected my weight this week.
Today I did a little bit more everything in order to record some progress tomorrow. I ate lighter food and just spent an hour on the treadmill. Ran for 9,5 km and burned 1100 kcal. All this made the scale stop at even 99,0 kg. I'm expecting to lose a little more overnight, so it looks like the result may just be good. 98,9 kg is the half-way point on this second part of my project (93 kg by May 31st).
Now for a good night of sleep.

Had energy for only one lap in central park. Burned a little over 800 kcal, but still I weigh a lot more than this morning's 99,5 kg. Thankfully I have one more day before weekly weigh'ing.

An easy 35 minute, 603 kcal run at the gym. Didn't have time for more after grocery shopping. Still have the little pain on the right side of my right knee.
99,8 kg this morning. I seem to be stuck at this weight. If there's no change in a week I will start to worry.

Skiing on fresh snow (61) (31.1.2010)
I planned on doing nothing at all today, but after eating too much I had to go ski. Did two laps in the central park and burned 1508 kcal in 90 minutes with avg hr of 150.
My legs hurt, but it's a good pain. Won't be skiing in a few days though.

30 minute xtrainer at the gym, followed by the traditional badminton. Why am I this tired.
Yesterday I maintained my weight at 99,7 kg for the 4th weekly weigh'ing. After eating a burger and other crap last night at a small party, this morning I was back in the triple digits (100,0 kg). I'll try to get my weight back down by Monday.

I had to ride the bike in order to match this morning's weight tomorrow. I'm hoping to match the 99,7 kg and I think I'll do that. Today's 21 km in 46 minutes helps.

So cold (57) (27.1.2010)
The only reason I went to the gym was that I was freezing the whole day. All day it has been approximately 20 degrees celcius below zero. I'm glad I made myself run on the treadmill, because for the first time all day I feel warm. Another thing that really made me smile was stepping on the scale when I got home. Even though night weigh'ins dont count, when the scale stopped at 99,9 kg I felt like I'm really making progress again. It's a real possibility that I just might be able to lose 5 kg in January. Let's see what the scale says tomorrow morning, and more importantly, on Friday.

My God skiing is hard! (56) (25.11.2010)
I didn't want to do anything, just sitting in front of the tv sounded fantastic. But noooo, I had want to break that 100 kg barrier this week. I'm a month ahead of my target, but still I can't give myself a break. Once again I have to make my goal as soon as possible.
Skied for 45 minutes and burned 837 kcal with the average hr o 158. The snow is still really icy, but I remembered one tip about the kick that helped a lot.
Should I take tomorrow off from gym? I know I'm not gonna go skiing, that's for sure.

Once again I tried to do some running, but this time I felt a sharp pain after 21 minutes. I stopped running and did four sets of inclined bench presses. Before leaving I did another 12 minutes on the xtrainer.
I'm hoping to break 101 kg tomorrow. I feel great about closing on the 100 kg benchmark.

After cleaning the house I decided that it's time to do two workouts today. I started with going to the gym and running for 30 minutes. After that I came home and had a little pasta before our hour of badminton.

Wanted to do a little something even though I'd rather just stayed home all night.
So anyway. I ran for 30 minutes and feel confident that tomorrow I'll weigh less than today's 101,6 kg.

Start of Q2 (51) (20.1.2010)
Tired beyond belief.
Went skiing in the central park. 40 minutes, 5 km, 877 kcal and 5,1 km. Snow was packed really hard and that proved to be way too difficult for my skill level.
Today I've eaten two rolls for lunch and some rice with oriental chili beef after work. I wish it was Friday weigh'ing already. This morning I weighed 101,8 kg, so well ahead of my schedule.

Ran for the 50th (50) (19.1.2010)
A triumphant return to the gym! I warmed up for 12 minutes on the bike, then ran for a full 60 minutes on the treadmill. Even though I ran with an easy pace (9 km/h), I still got an average hr of 159 and used up 1177 kcal.
25 % of my 200 workout goal is now done. A very, very long way to go.
I haven't eaten much today. I had a soup for lunch and a piece of pie when I got home.

An hour of badminton, as promised. My legs are pretty tired after all I've done in the last two days.

Could 't wait until tomorrow. The weather was perfect, so I went to practice my skiing technique and I really believe I'm getting better. I just might do it again tomorrow if I have the time.
I did only one lap in Espoo central park. It took me 30 minutes and accorfing to my hr monitor I used 609 kcal with a hr average of 159.
Now we're off to play badminton.
Firts time doing something other than sitting on the couch for nearly two weeks. We went out for nordic walking last night. We did 11,66 km in just over 2 hours. Heart rate was nice and high from time to time, thanks to the soft snow and ice.

Another week goes by (15.1.2010)
I'm still not feeling too good, but I am getting better. I'm thinking of starting easy either tonight or tomorrow. Maybe an easy set at the gym, or perhaps nordic walking.
I have had to compensate the lack of exercise with even tighter diet in order to keep up with my weight loss goal. I feel like I'm eating nothing at all, but at least I am losing 0,5 kg per week. Today I weighed 102,5 kg.

Just as I expected, I did drop weight quite significantly. This morning the scale stopped at 103,0 kg.
Haven't been able to do anything this week and I'm still stuck with the cold. I really hope I can do something over the weekend, but in order for that to happen I mist feel a lot better in the morning than what I did today.
It's hard to try to keep a strict diet whily just sitting on the couch for a week. I've tried to cut down on my eating even more since I'm not working out.

Don't get a cold! (46) (3.1.2010)
The whole day I've felt more and more like I'm getting a cold. There's never a good time get a cold, but I really don't want to be sick on my last week of winter vacation. The weather is getting perfect for cross-country skiing. I planned to get in at least 7 workouts, preferably even 10 next week.
Oh yeah, we just got home from playing 70 minutes of badminton. I got my ass handed to me.

Crosstrainer with UFC3 (45) (3.1.2010)
I need to pay more attention to my diet. I had only cereal this morning, and I totally ran out of energy when on the crosstrainer. I did 30 minutes with the random program and had a good pace, thanks to the UFC 3 final I was watching at the time. I ended up burning 565 kcal, but had no energy to do anything else.
The weather is warming up, so maybe I can ski tomorrow.

Cardio (44) (2.1.2010)
Now that the weight loss goal has been set, I'm afraid I'll take the easy way out and just go on a crazy diet, do only cardio and forget about weight training. In a way I happy that I got back the motivation for aerobic stuff, but I really hope I will keep on lifting weights as well. I want my 95 kg to be mostly muscle. :-)
Today was a fun, easy workout. 40 minutes on the xtrainer, and for the first time I tried the random resistance program. I really liked it, so I'll definetely use it in the future as well. I also did four sets of triceps, just tried to losen them a bit so that I'd be ready when the weather outside is a bit less cold and I can go out and ski again.

The start
The magic number this morning was 104,8 kg. After over eating last night, the starting weight is high. I'm expecting a big stop in the first week.
